Colonel Faber assumed duties as the Chief of Staff, Joint Force Headquarters – Ohio, on January 1, 2005. As the Chief of Staff, he establishes policies, priorities, and oversight of the federal budget, operations and training, personnel, logistical support operations, and military construction programs for the Ohio Army National Guard consisting of more than 11,000 soldiers and 65 facilities. He also serves as Brigade-level commander with oversight of three colonel commands and two separate field-grade commands.

Colonel Faber began his military career as an enlisted soldier following graduation from high school in 1979, and was commissioned a second lieutenant through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 1981. He graduated summa cum laude from Capital University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in management and holds a Master of Arts degree in international relations from Salve Regina University. He has also studied international leadership and management at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University; and Astrophysics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Additional assignments include: Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations J-3, Joint Force Headquarters, Ohio, and prior to that, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel J-1. He also served as a U.S. Army War College Fellow in the National Security Program at Harvard University. Prior to his fellowship, he commanded 1st Battalion, 73d Troop Command, Ohio’s First-to-Fight units that were mobilized for Operation Joint Endeavor, the Bosnian Peacekeeping mission. Colonel Faber is a Senior Army Aviator with more than 2000 hours in attack, reconnaissance, and utility aircraft. He has served as an instructor pilot, troop commander, squadron operations and executive officer, and served as Aviation Section Commander, Task-Force Sixteen, Joint Task Force Bravo, USSOUTHCOM during Operation Fuertes Caminos, in the Republic of Honduras.

Colonel Faber is serving in his third term as the NGAUS Secretary.
