Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the Navy Reserves as a Radioman in 1986. After 24 years of services and a deployment to Kuwait (2007), the Navy wanted to retire Chief Petty Officer (ITC) Spillane. As an alternative to retirement, he transferred to the NC National Guard. He became NC’s first 140A Air Defense Artillery Warrant Officer. He proudly held the position with the 130th MEB from 2011 – 2017 providing support for 2 Warfighters and the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
